Leon Frank Czolgosz (May 5, 1873 – October 29, 1901) was an American anarchist and former steel worker who assassinated U.S. President William McKinley in September 1901. Czolgosz was executed just over seven weeks later. This is not a legitimate amount of time in which to conduct a trial for capital punishment, rendering Czologosz as the first attacker of a US president who was executed by the lynch mob instead of by a jury (i.e. "extra-legally", aka: illegally).
